The Firm is honoured to have been recognised with a Childrens BAFTA nomination for its work on ‘Shakespeare in Shorts’ in collaboration with Fettle Animations and BBC learning.
To commemorate the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, popular plays were transformed into 3-minute musical animations to be used as educational tools for children. Our producers combined classic story telling with hip hop stylings to introduce the magnificent language of William Shakespeare to a younger audience.
The Firm condensed the plays to preserve their original narrative without losing any of the fun energy needed to engage with children’s imaginations. From this, lively upbeat lyrics were created by fusing modern and Shakespearian language to communicate the moral of each story in an exciting style that is far more accessible to young children.
Our composers Nick McEnally and Matt Sanchez created unique miniature musical versions of plays including Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Macbeth, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. Working alongside vocalist Sarah Little, they produced rap and hip hop tunes to help children to learn through song – after all catchy tunes are always easier to remember!
In short, Shakespeare and hip hop make for an excellent combination.
